Perie Banou II has been in need of some significant attention since Jon returned from his 11th circumnavigation of the world. In late July the yacht was lifted out of the water at Royal Perth Yacht Club. The hull has undergone a major rework at the hands of Bay Marine. Much of the rigging has been renewed and the mast is undergoing preparation for a repaint. The sails made by Rolly Taskers Sailmakers have endured five major storms with wind speed at times exceeding 60knots as recounted in the Voyage Blogs on this web site. Amazingly the sails have not been taken off or changed in the entire voyage. To complete the restoration of the mast and rigging the mainsail is being offered in return for a contribution to costs … a unique part of history and the epic adventures of one of the greatest solo sailors the world has seen. Sail condition … worn, lettering “No Plastic Waste” peeling off; “Rolly Tasker Sailmaker” intact; registration “R4” intact. Sail height 42.50 ft / 12.95 m. This unique part of history will go to the best offer by the end of August …. as is, ex Perth.
Perie Banou II was built in 1971 by Doug Brooker in Sydney and at 50 years old the restoration by Bay Marine makes the vessel look like new (see the photos posted here). Not sure we can say quite the same for Jon who turns 82 today. Happy birthday Jon Sanders, the oldest person to have circumnavigated the world solo and the only person to have completed 11 solo circumnavigations of our planet.
